Presenteeism is a new term comparatively destructive to Absenteeism. It means that the employees are present at their jobs, however, they find ways to avoid doing their work. This also includes employees that disrupt the work environment which affects other employees. The cost of Presenteeism is hundreds of billions of dollars in North America. When this figure is compared to the AOL and Salary.com survey, it makes more sense ($749 Billion in time-wasted!). This is equivalent to 2.5 Billion days of work lost each year! The solution to this disruptive behavior is to manage the way time is utilized in a company. It is easy to point to stronger management practices.
