Can't find the program in the Add/Remove list?
The authors of many programs hide their uninstallers so that you can't remove them! It's very bad practice to do this of course. You do have an option though...
To unhide these programs from the Add/Remove list, try the following.
- Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory C:\Windows\Inf.
- In this directory, locate a file called sysoc.inf.
Also Since this is a system file, it is highly recommended that you make a backup of it (copy/paste it to your desktop or something) before you proceed with the instructions below.
- Open the file in a text editor. Here is an example of what you'll find:
- Notice there will be programs listed here with the keyword 'HIDE'. If you remove the HIDE (leave the commas untouched) the program will now become accessible when you go to Add/Remove it from the control panel.
An Example:
For some reason, Microsoft has chosen that the game Pinball is a very important component of the Windows Operating System. Therefore, by default you will find the following line in the sysoc.inf file: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
If you change that line to look like this: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7
You will now have the option of uninstalling the game. You can now uninstall the game by going to: Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Components>Accessories and Utilities>Details>Games>Details
